STRATEGIC ASSESSMENT-The Israeli occupation forces on Sunday arrested seven Palestinian journalists and a human rights activist in the northern Jordan Valley.
The detainees are Hazem Naser, Shadi Jarar’a, Ranin Sawafta, Shatha Hammad, Hesham Abu Shaqra, Khlaed Bdeir, Mahmoud Fawzi, and Fares Fuqaha.
Eyewitnesses said that the detainees were taken to a nearby military post, northeast of Tubas city.
The witnesses said that the journalists were present in the area to cover the Israeli army’s deportation of the Palestinian residents of Hamsa al-Fuqa village to clear way for military training.
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned the detention of the journalists and the human rights worker and the confiscation of their ID cards and equipment.
The syndicate called on the concerned organizations to intervene and pressure the Israeli authorities to release the detainees.
It also called on the International Federation of Journalists to exert every possible effort to ensure the safety of Palestinian journalists who are constantly targeted by the Israeli occupation.
